Grass Roots Football
Ian Maxwell, Chief Executive of the Scottish FA describes grassroots football as: “a powerful unifier within society. He goes on to say “it is important that we canvas the opinions of those who are the lifeblood of the game across the nation.”
Caroline Diaz is Secretary, Player Protection Officer and Coach with Milngavie FC. Her dedication to grassroots football won her the Sunday Mail/McDonald’s Grassroots Award for Volunteer Disability Football in 2015.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Caroline said: “I’m a great believer in that famous saying it’s the taking part that matters most and we are forming the club’s whole ethos around that…We believe in football for all and it’s extremely rewarding to see how much the kids get out of just being able to enjoy the game among friends.”
It is clear to see Milngavie FC’s devotion to grassroots football makes an incredible difference across their local community, encouraging boys and girls to fall in love with the wonderful game.
There are more females playing in Scotland than ever before and the Scottish FC is committed to improving the coaching they receive. Milngavie consequently have added a fourth girls’ team to their club – under 7’s. John McCabe from the club added “We encourage physical activity and football from an early age so are delighted to have been able to include an under 7’s team with our 3 other teams under 9’s, under 11’s and under 13’s. The girls play competitive matches in various locations across the central belt and we are dedicated to continuing this growth.
